Ganden to Samye Trek

This itinerary has a rich variety of scenery-from high snowy passes to lush alpine meadows to the dessert-like environs by Samye monastery. Also a pilgrimage route, this trek is well-traversed by Tibetan who find it convenient to combine a visit to Ganden (the principal monastery of the Gelugpa sect) with a reasonably direct, albeit hard walk to Samye, Tibet's first monastery.

Day 01: Kathmandu / Gonggar Airport / Lhasa (3,650m).

Upon arrival in Gonggar Airport, our representative assist you to Lhasa. Overnight in hotel.

Day 02-03: In Lhasa. (Sightseeing tour).

Sightseeing tour around Lhasa, visit The Jokhang temple, Barkhor market, Sera monastery, Drepung monastery and Potala palace. Overnight in hotel.

Day 04: Lhasa / Ganden / Hebu valley.

Drive to Gandenadnd visit the Ganden monastery. After lunch start trek to Hebu valley. It takes about 4hours to reach the village and camp above. Have a good rest here before tackling pass. Overnight in tented camp.

Day 05: Hebu valley / Shogar la.

Trek to South Base Camp of Shogar la, approx. 6-7 hours. This is the most difficult day of this trek, so make sure to start early. Overnight in tented camp.

Day 06: Shogar la / Gamba la.

Cross the Gambala and camp by the riverside, it takes 6 hours. Overnight in tented camp.

Day 07: Gambala / Tol-Malong.

Trek approx. 6 hours to Tol-Malong. Overnight in tented camp.

Day 08: Tol-Malong / Samye.

Trek approx. 5 hours. Afternoon, visit the Samye monastery and camp nearby.

Day 09: Samye / Chongyal valley / Samye.

Day excursion to Chongyal valley. Overnight in tented camp.

Day 10: Samye / Gyantse.

Drive along and meander around the holy Yamdroktso lake to Gyantse. At afternoon, visit Palkhor monastery and Kumbum Stupa. Overnight in hotel.

Day 11: Gyantse / Xigatse.

Drive to Xigatse, the house of the famous Tashilompo monastery, the seat of Panchen Lama, visit Tashilompo monastery. Overnight in hotel.

Day 12: Xigatse / Tingri.

A spectacular drive watching the Himalays crossing the high passes. Overnight in guest house.

Day 13: Tingri / Rongbuk.

Early morning drive to Rongbuk, visit Rongbuk monastery (the highest monastery in the world). Overnight in guest house.

Day 14: Rongbuk / Lhatze / Nyalam.

Everest Base camp excursion. From here the true grandeur of Everest's sheer north face is visible and drive to Nyalam. Overnight in guest house.

Day 15: Nyalam / Zhangmu / Kathmandu.

Drive to Zhangmu, after immigration formalities, our representative assist you to Kathmandu.
